NEW YORK – EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said that Kosovo needs to abolish tariffs so the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina could be continued. The final agreement has to be in line with international law but it has to be supported by Security Council Of United Nations as well.
“Your role is the main role and we are ready, to intensify conversations with all Security Council members”, Mogherini said in New York.
Talking about priorities of EU foreign policy, she talked about reconciliation across Western Balkans as a contribution to the EU multilateralism in the world.
“Tariffs imposed by the government of Kosovo have to be ambolished so the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina could be continued”, Mogherini underlined, adding she will set a meeting on the same day when tariffs pull back, in order to achieve comprehensive and legal agreement which will resolve all opened questions and normalize the relationship between Belgrade and Pristina.
Even though she mediates in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, EU High Representative pointed out that dialogue does not belong neither to her nor EU, but to parties taking part in the process.
“It is up to them to find an agreement which will be acceptable and suitable for both of them”, Mogherini said.
She thanked all Security Council members on constructive approach towards Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Besides the agreement between Atina and Skopje on the name, positive outcome of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will bring more hope to region and become model and inspiration for EU and worldwide.
